Data manager ILLUMINE Dark Proteome Cancer Grand Challenges

At the Netherlands Cancer Institute, we lead an international team of researchers called ILLUMINE. The aim of ILLUMINE is to chart the landscape of unknown proteins (referred to as dark proteins) for future use in cancer therapy. Technologies that will be used range from DNAseq, RNAseq, Riboseq, proteomics, and immunopeptidomics.

We are looking for a data manager to collect, standardize, organize, clean, and manage this data, ensuring it is findable, available, accessible, interoperable, and reusable to the team and the general scientific community. You will join the manager, the team leader, and all ILLUMINE team members to coordinate data transfer and curation.

As the team Data Manager within ILLUMINE, you will play a critical role in ensuring the operational excellence of data delivery, support, and governance across the organization. You are responsible for leading the newly established Data Management approach, integrating teams and capabilities into a cohesive unit that delivers high-quality, timely, and consistent data services.

As a manager, you will empower the multidisciplinary ILLUMINE team, promote agile and self-organizing ways of working where relevant, and drive continuous improvement. Your role is essential in building a future-proof data foundation that supports ILLUMINE’s ambitions and enables data-driven decision-making at scale.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Lead the ILLUMINE multidisciplinary team across Data Support, Data Delivery & Analysis, and Master Data Management, fostering a culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Empower ILLUMINE to take responsibility for their performance and development. Inspire team members by connecting their work to ILLUMINE’s broader mission and strategy.

  • Develop and maintain a roadmap for ILLUMINE’s Data Management plan.

  • Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent delivery of data services that support future scientific needs.

  • Monitor key performance indicators for data quality, delivery, and operational efficiency, and use the insights to drive improvements.

  • Lead change by integrating the team members of ILLUMINE into a cohesive unit, creating clarity, stability, and a strong foundation for future performance.

  • Support the Coordination, organization and facilitate (inter)national network (web)meetings, including preparation of agendas, minutes, and follow-ups;

  • Collaborate for the preparation of progress meetings and write progress reports.

  • Relevant experience in bioinformatics, data management, and data governance.

  • Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, metadata, and master data management, including experience with relevant tooling.

Your development opportunities and employment conditions

The basis for your employment conditions is in accordance with the CLA Hospitals. You will receive from us:

  • A year's contract for 36 hours per week, with the prospect of an extension of 4 years;

  • A gross monthly salary between €3164,- and €4261,-, based on a 36-hour working week, in line with FWG 45 and depending on your experience;

  • 144 holiday hours and 57 hours of Personal Life Budget, with full-time employment;

  • Annual holiday pay of 8.33% and a fixed end-of-year bonus of 8.33%;

  • A travel allowance of €0.23 per km;

  • Free parking at the Netherlands Cancer Institute. And with our bicycle plan and discount on public transport we also make it attractive for you to leave the car at home;
