Biochemist / Structural Biologist

Over de functie

How do cohesin and condensin shape our DNA? How are these protein complexes regulated to enable processes like cell division and gene control? And how does the related SMC5/6 complex silence viruses? We are looking for a Biochemist / Structural Biologist to help us answer these important questions.

The group of Benjamin Rowland, within the NKI Division of Cell Biology, is looking for a biochemist / structural biologist to join their interdisciplinary team. The Rowland lab studies genome control by cohesin, condensin and SMC5/6, with the aim of discovering how these protein complexes shape the genome and determine its function.

In this role, you will contribute to research that focuses on:

  • Discovering how cohesin, condensin and SMC5/6 build DNA loops that organize the genome in three dimensions

  • Understanding the mechanisms by which these complexes entrap and release DNA

  • Studying sister chromatid cohesion and mitotic chromosome condensation

  • Investigating how these complexes contribute to viral genome silencing
